Background: One of the most important nursing functions is to administer medications safely. Effective and safe administration of medication is one of the most common nursing activities that require a set of knowledge and specialized skills. Aim of the study: Evaluate the effect of training program on reduction of nurse's medication errors. Subjects & Methods: Research Design: quasi-experimental design was used in the current study. Setting: study was conducted at Intensive Care Units at specialized medical hospital in Mansoura University which include three intensive care units namely (cardiac, hepatic and diabetic). Subject: study subjects include 50 nurses working in above mentioned setting, all patients assigned to observed nurses and drug doses that administer to the patient (n=230). Tools of data collection: two tools were used, 1) questionnaire interview sheet to assess nurses' knowledge about safe medication administration practice and medication errors. 2) Observation check list to assess medication administration practice for detecting medication errors there were used before and after implementation of the program. Results of the present study revealed that only 18% of nurses had satisfactory knowledge about medication administration and medication errors this percentage improve to 90% immediately after program implementation & 84% in the three months later and total high errors was 70.5% in pre program this percent decrease to 24.3% in three months later phase. Conclusions: Nurse's knowledge were improved immediately after program and three months later. As regard to medication errors, the percent of total high errors was decreased in comparing to preprogram implementation. Recommendations: Implementing of regular or scheduling training for all nurses in hospitals to improve and refreshing their knowledge and skills. Implement double check system to prevent medication administration errors and improve the effectiveness of communication among health care providers to ensure continuity of patient care and reduce medication errors.

Background: Mother and infant form an inseparable biological and social unit. Ultimately, mothers have initial decision about the type of infant feeding according to their perspective about the pros and cons of each type of feeding. Aim of the study: is to investigate the maternal vista regarding pros and cons of breastfeeding versus formula feeding. Subject and methods: Research design: A descriptive research design was implemented. Setting: This study was conducted at medical units of Alexandria University Children's Hospital at El-Shatby (AUCH). Subject: A convenient sample of three hundred mothers were selected, 150 breastfeeding mothers versus 150 formula feeding mothers. Tools of data collection: The pros and cons of breastfeeding versus formula feeding interview structured schedule was used to collect data. This tool was developed by the researcher after thorough review of the most recent and related literature about breastfeeding and formula feeding. Results: unfortunately, large percent of mother considered breastfeeding is time consuming, and leads to some breast problems. There was statistical significance differences between maternal socioeconomic characteristics and their selection of infant's nutritional types either breast or formula feeding. Unfortunately, more than half of mothers did not know any pros of breastfeeding for them. Conclusion: There were many factors influencing the maternal vista and consequently affecting their selection of infant's feeding such as maternal age, working, income, and influence of support group. Recommendations: Tailoring illustrated breastfeeding booklet should be available and distributed for nursing mothers to include increase their knowledge and promote their skills relative to breastfeeding and positively influencing their attitudes about it. In addition, creation of hotline providing 24-hour access to provide help for lactating mothers is beneficial.

Background: Nursing management of newborn with hyperbilirubinemia requires a comprehensive approach. Jaundice is one of the most common conditions needing medical attention in neonates. Approximately 60% of term and 80% of preterm neonates develop jaundice in the first week of life. Aim of the study was to establish basic standards for nursing management of neonates with hyperbilirubinemia. Subject & Methods: Research Design: A descriptive qualitative design. Setting: The neonatal intensive care units of the University Children's Hospital at Zagazig University Hospitals. Subjects: Two groups of subjects were included: a expert group and nursing group. The expert group consisted of 37 experts including nurses' supervisors, head nurses and assistance of head nurses and they were 12 members, 19 medicine faculty members, and 6 nursing faculty members. The nursing group consisted of 33 nurses. Tools of data collections: Four tools were used to collect data: structure interview sheet,Knowledge assessment sheet ,Observational checklist and Resources checklist:. Results: The study revealed that there was general agreement from the expert group regarding the broad basic competencies and its underlined supported standards. Based on that result, standard of nursing care of neonates with hyperbilirubinemia was established. The proposed standards had acceptable face and content validity though agreement of a group of jury. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the study achieved its goal of establishing standard of nursing care for neonates with hyperbilirubinemia. The established standard includes structure, process, and outcome standards with emphasize on "process standard". Recommendations: It is recommended to apply the developed nursing standards in the study setting and also in similar settings in other hospitals.
